Clara Elizabeth "Betty" Warner, 91, passed away July 2, 2010 at her home in Abilene. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Paul United Methodist Church on Friday, July 9, at 10:30 a.m. with Dr. Eddie Rivera and Rev. Pam Rowley officiating. Arrangements are being made by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene.
Betty was born in Martinsburg, West Virginia on August 6, 1918, the daughter of Marc and Mayme Biddison. She grew up in Athens, Ohio, where she attended secondary school and college, and where she met and married her husband, Maurice "Boone" Warner. Betty flourished in making new friends and adapting to different cultures in the many places she called home. By the time she made Texas her final home in 2005, she had lived in nine states and two foreign countries.
She participated in many diverse activities, both work and play. As a young mother she became involved in both Brownie and Cub Scout work and gave swimming lessons to handicapped children. Later, she became a political volunteer and served as a clerk in the state legislature in North Dakota. Betty loved golf both as a spectator and as a player. Even after a serious leg injury ended her playing days, she remained an ardent golf fan. Travel was also high on Betty's list of fun things to do, and she and Boone spent a lot of time traveling after he retired.
In addition to being a mother and homemaker, Betty worked in the insurance business and as a realtor. As a way of helping support the family she published a weekly paper in the community in which she lived while husband was in graduate school.
Betty was preceded in death by her daughter, Teri Ann Bono. She is survived by her husband; a son, Bob Warner and wife Bobbie of Abilene; a son-in-law, Joseph Bono of Belleville, Illinois; a brother, E.M. Biddison, Jr. of Wilmington, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Barbara Bono of Rockford, Illinois, Kathleen Bono of San Jose, Costa Rica, and Brady Warner and wife Stacey of Southlake, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Hannah and Coby Warner of Southlake.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 525 Beech St., Abilene, TX 79601, or Hospice of the Big Country, 4601 Hartford St., Abilene, TX 79605.
