Cindy Rodgers

Many of you already know, but Cindy Lou Swanson Rodgers will spend this Easter actually WITH the Savior. It was this past Thursday morning, April 13, 2017, that she died quietly at Hendrick Hospice House with her family right beside her. It was truly a “holy moment.” The family will be at Allan and Linda Frizzell's home at 1310 Canterbury if you want to come by. Cindy has no more pain, though she fought as hard as anyone I've ever seen or known. She was one of our Lord's best! The Visitation will be Tuesday, April 18th from 5:00-6:30 PM at the home of Bob and Laurie Eagle, 1431 Tanglewood Rd. The Memorial Service will be held at First Baptist Church of Abilene at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, April 19th. Arrangements are by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene. Cindy was born in Bourne, Mass. on October 9, 1962. Cindy was an Air Force kid, living in numerous places with her family before landing in Lubbock, Texas where she finished high school. It was there she met Chuck Rodgers. They both went to Texas Tech University where Cindy received her degree in accounting. Though she had always thought she would be in Public Accounting, Cindy allowed her role as a “ministry partner” with Chuck and Young Life to come first. Wherever the Lord chose to move them, she was ready and would find a job when they arrived. Cindy and Chuck moved to Abilene in 1989 and soon knew they had found home by the way Abilene “took them in.” Both of their children, son Taylor and daughter Molly, were born and raised in Abilene. Cindy primarily worked for medical practices as the business or practice manager. Yet it was Young Life and serving her beloved community of Abilene that were her true passions. Cindy LOVED. Period. She loved Jesus in such a way that it made you want to “have what she has.” People would leave times with Cindy and would often reflect back and say, “I just told her things I’ve never told anyone!” She was all about the person in front of her, and only wanted to help others do whatever they were doing, better! Cindy married Chuck Rodgers on March 28, 1986. They had just celebrated their 30th anniversary. You almost never said Cindy’s name without saying Chuck’s. They were a true “team” in all they did, be it Young Life or serving the community of Abilene. Cindy was preceded in death by her biological mother, Ginny Swanson and her brother, Danny Swanson. Cindy is survived by her husband, Chuck; her son, Taylor of Fort Smith, AR and daughter, Molly of Abilene; sisters Becky O’Brien, of Austin, TX and Kristi Young (Russell) of El Paso, TX; sister-in-law Connie Swanson of Fort Worth, TX; parents Dan and Billye Swanson of Alamogordo, NM; father/mother-in-law Bobby and Lynn Rodgers of Lubbock, TX; sister-in-law Sheila Rodgers Farmer (Russell) of Lubbock, TX; brother-in-law Chris Rodgers (Amy) of Dallas, TX; nephews and nieces Chris Allen, Stephanie Rauert, Megan Young, Ashleigh Young Dreyer, Heather Young, Avery Farmer, Jimmy Farmer, Davis Rodgers, Gray Rodgers and Bo Rodgers. Honorary pallbearers are Mike Alexander, John Beckham, Dean Berry, Bob Eagle, Allan Frizzell, Bob Gee, Kelly Utley, Sandy Utley, Blake Bassett, Cullum Jefferies, Fulton Reaugh, and Wade Varner.
