On September 10, 2009, Chrystell McElroy Carter stepped into the arms of Jesus after 86 years.
Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, September 13, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene, Texas. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday at Trinity Baptist Church in Abilene with Rev. Kevin Kennedy and Dr. Timothy Richardson officiating. The graveside service will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park in Abilene.
Chrystell was born in Caradan, Texas to Hauty and Ruby Doggett on May 23, 1923.
She attended Centennial High School in Valera, Texas where she played basketball. She married Curtis McElroy on December 15, 1949 in Clovis, New Mexico, and Gene Carter on November 11, 1975 in Ft. Worth, Texas.
Chrystell worked for thirteen years at Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene at the hospital central appointment desk. She was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church for 40
years.
Her parents, husbands, and brother, Melvin Armstrong, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her sons and their spouses, Craig and Becky McElroy of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Lynn and Tammy McElroy of Saginaw, Texas; daughters, LaNita Richardson and spouse, Butch, of San Angelo, Texas, and Darla Jones of Houston, Texas; brother and spouse, Gene and Sydna Doggett of Granbury, Texas; eleven grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; cousins and a host of friends, as well as a son through love from Florida, Darrell Green, whom she loved dearly.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
