Christine Waldrop Underwood, age 82, of Abilene, died Tuesday, October 18, 2005 at Abilene Regional Medical Center. Funeral Services will be held, Saturday, October 22, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel with and Rev. Burtis Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Friday, October 21st from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd., Abilene, Texas 79606. Christine Waldrop Underwood was born on June 27, 1923 in Abilene, Texas to parents Roy Golden Waldrop and Lydia Lodell Ward Waldrop. Christine was a native Abilenian and she attended Butterfield Schools and graduated from Old Abilene High. She went on to attend Business School at McMurry College which is now McMurry University. She married Jewett A. "Buddy" Underwood in Abilene on July 4, 1957. She worked at Consolidated in California during World War II building B-29's. She returned to Abilene and worked for Arthur Henson Development Co. for ten years, before going to work as a Real Estate Secretary for Radford Hills Development Co., which is now Muskgrave Enterprises, for over twenty years. She was a member of Elmcrest Baptist Church here in Abilene and was a member of Oro Negra Chapter of American Business Women's Association, since 1956. She also held many offices including President and Woman of The Year. She was a member of Chapter River Oaks 1013 Order of Eastern Star. Christine was preceded in death by her husband of thirty years, Jewett A. "Buddy" Underwood, in 1987; both parents; a sister, Dura Mae Cozby; and a granddaughter, Kristyanna. Christine is survived and lovingly remembered by her three sons: Roy Earl Underwood and wife, Hayley, of Abilene; Ronald A. Underwood and wife, June Marie, of Richardson; and Keith W. Underwood, of Copeland, Florida. Also a brother, R.G. "Tommy" Waldrop and wife, Verlene, of Pasadena; and four grandchildren: Ronnie Jordan and family, Donavan Alwyn and family, Tanner Layne, and Toby Landon; along with three nieces: Judy, Diane, Tommie and their families; and one nephew, Jackie and his family. Memorials may be sent to the American Heart Association or The West Texas Rehab Center.
