Christine Matthews, 79, went to be with her Savior Saturday, February 18, 2006 at a local care center. Visitation will be on Sunday, February 19, 2006 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Graveside services will be held in the Oakwood Cemetery in Comanche at 11:00 am on Monday, February 20, with Rev. Ross Bennett officiating.
Christine was born on February 23, 1926 at Newburg in Comanche County to Dave and Janie Godfrey. She graduated with honors from Comanche High School in 1943. She married G.J. Matthews on December 2, 1945. She was a life long Christian and bible student. She was an office holder and an active member of Brook Hollow Christian Church until disabled by her illness.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joy Leann Matthews, one grandson, John Edward Harwell, both of her parents, Dave and Janie Godfrey, and one brother, Travis Godfrey.
Christine is survived by her husband of sixty years, G.J. Matthews, two daughters, Gaye Harwell and her husband Terry of Irving, and Sue Drumheller and her husband Doug of Abilene; two brothers, Claud and Jerry Godfrey of Blanket, five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
"Dear lovely Christine, we love you and miss you with all our hearts. You were always there to keep calm the storms of life. We grieve for you, but not like those without hope. In Christ we will see you again. Praise the Lord!"
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Brook Hollow Christian Church, 2310 South Willis, Abilene, Texas 79605 or the donor's favorite charity.
