Charlotte Ann Booker

1930 — August 6, 2017

Charlotte Ann Terry Booker won her struggle with Alzheimer's as she left this life for her Heavenly home on Sunday, August 6, 2017, at the age of 86. Charlotte was born in Cleburne, Texas, on August 8, 1930, the daughter of William Jefferson Terry and Waddell Moore Terry. She spent most of her growing up years in nearby Godley. She tragically lost her mother, sister, grandmother, and aunt in a train/car accident when Charlotte was only six years old. Bill, her father, got remarried to Susie Reynolds Terry, and the three built a new life together. In 1949, Charlotte married J.W. Booker, and she began a 55-year marriage as a coach's wife, a mother, a grandmother, and a great-grandmother. She spent more than 20 years as a school principal's secretary in the schools of Jasper, Texas, where the Booker's made their home for 42 years before moving to Abilene in 2001. Charlotte was also a minister's wife and an elder's wife in the Church of Christ during those years. She was an excellent cook and seamstress with a gift for making a home for her family. After their children were grown, she and J.W. spent 30 years enjoying trailering and camping across the country and on mission trips. After the move to Abilene, the Booker's made their church home with the Hillcrest Church of Christ, and then when J.W. died in 2004, Charlotte continued to enjoy her eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Her struggle with Alzheimer's was one that she had witnessed with her own father, and she realized the first symptoms shortly after her 80th birthday. She made wise decisions with movement into a senior living center, with the sale of her home, with giving up her driving, and with her final two years in assisted living and memory care centers. Everyone always recognized and appreciated her beaming smile in those last years. Her faith and prayer life were examples to her family and her church friends. Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother, husband and two infant grandchildren: Michael and Morgan Elizabeth. She is survived by her children: Terry and Virginia Booker of Kilgore, Steve and Judy Booker of Forney, Sheila and Don Hilton of Abilene; her grandchildren: Sarah Booker, Jason and Leigh Booker, Tracy and Scott Gray, Brandon and Amy Booker, Michelle and Derek Stunkard, Brady and Stephanie Hilton, JuliAnne and Heath Huston, Marissa and Caleb Northrup; and her great-grandchildren: Holt and Tate Booker, Audrey and Bailey Gray, Sloan and Nora Booker, Daniel Stunkard, Walker and Wesley Hilton, Ace Northrup, and Everly and Charlotte Huston. A funeral service will be held in the Hillcrest Church of Christ Chapel Wednesday, August 9, at 1:30 p.m. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 8, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Hillcrest Church of Christ Chapel. Burial will follow the funeral service in Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories Cemetery under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene. Memorial gifts may be made to summer youth mission trips at your local church since Charlotte and J.W. spent many trips with young people during their summers. Thanks to the staff at Windcrest Health & Rehab and Hendrick Hospice.
