Charley B. Sconyers, 87, of Abilene died Saturday, September 12, 2009, at Hendrick Medical Center.
Charley was born in Ft. Towson, Oklahoma on October 10, 1921 to Lon and Emma Sconyers. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II, and was the recipient of a Purple Heart. Charley was an electrician for Sconyers Electric until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of the V.F.W. and N E B F.
Since 1940, he had been a resident of Abilene, where he married LaNelle Price in 1941. She preceded him in death on January 5, 2005. He was also preceded in death by his son, Roy Lynn Sconyers in 1973; parents; and six siblings.
Survivors include his son, Charles L. Sconyers, of Arkansas; daughter, Delores LaNelle Dempsey of Abilene; Jerry D. Sconyers and wife, Joan, of Abilene; eleven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, September 18, 2009, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene, Texas, officiated by Rev. Rodney Watson. Interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Gordon Dempsey, Brian Dempsey, Ken Sconyers, Kurt Sconyers, Roy Sconyers, Jr., and Charles Sconyers, Jr. will be pallbearers.
