Charles Eugene “Gene” White, Sr., was called home to his final reward on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Hendrick Medical Center. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 4 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd. Funeral Services will be at Broadview Baptist Church on Thursday, June 5 at 2:00 pm with Rev. David Cason and and Rev. Wes Terry officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscola Cemetery under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home following the funeral services.
Charles “Gene” was born September 21, 1933 to Norban and Ora B. Miller White of Ballinger, TX, who preceded him in death. He married Dovie Marie Bardin on February 24, 1952 in Winters, TX.
He served in the U.S. Army in missile command. He was honorably discharged from the military on September 30, 1964. He began working for Greyhound Bus Company and remained there for over 30 years, while also remaining in the Reserves. After leaving Greyhound, Charles received his private pilot’s license and flew with the Commemorative Air Force for 16 years before his health began to decline and he could no longer fly. He was also a licensed insurance agent for 20 years.
Charles is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dovie; son, Charles E. White, Jr. and wife, Sandy of Lubbock; daughter, Melinda Scifres and husband, John of Mansfield; brothers Robert Dale and James Edward White; sister, Margaret Pat Young-Baack; grandchildren, Ashley White, Natalie Scifres and Ryan Scifres; and many nieces and nephews.
