Charles Andrew "C.A." Verett, of Abilene, died Thursday, November 29, 2007 at the age of 84. At the request of C.A., there will be no funeral or memorial service. His wish was to be cremated. Arrangements were handled by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
C.A. was born November 21, 1923 in Ralls, Texas to Charley and Maggie (Fenoglio) Verett. He graduated from Ralls High School in 1941. From 1943 to 1946, C.A. served in the Merchant Marines. He married Mildred "Millie" Snowden in Ralls on December 17, 1949. C.A. was a farmer in Crosby County for 30 years. He served as an elder for many years at the Crosbyton Church of Christ.
In 1975, C.A. and Millie moved to Abilene. He was on the staff at Abilene Christian University for 16 ½ years. C.A. was a member of Hillcrest Church of Christ. He was famous for making microwave peanut brittle for his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents. C.A. is survived by his wife, Millie Verett of Abilene; two sons, Vic Verett and his wife, Charlotte of Abilene, Kendall Verett and his wife Mara, of Phoenix, Arizona; one brother, Paul Verett and his wife Argie, of West Lafayette, Indiana; one sister, Jean Pepper, of Lubbock; four grandchildren, Jennifer Headrick and her husband Nathan, Cara Phelps and her husband Warner, Amy Booker and her husband Brandon, Michelle Schouteren and her husband Chris. He is also survived by two great-grandsons, Hagan and Delton, and two great-granddaughters, Haley and Christa.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in honor of C.A. Verett to the Hillcrest L.A.F. Fund, 650 East Ambler Avenue, Abilene, Texas 79601; Christian Village, 633 East North 19th Street, Abilene, Texas 79601; or to the donor's favorite charity.
