The angels rejoiced as they welcomed home Charles E. Stephens, a man of faith and honor, on January 29, 2008.
He was born January 21, 1927 to the late Homer and Rosa Stephens. He graduated from Goliad High School and attended Abilene Christian College. After teaching in Arkansas, he went to work for the Texas Highway Department as a soil analyst engineer.
Charles was a member of the church of Christ, having been baptized into Christ as a young man. Locally, he was a member of the Baker Heights congregation and he loved worshipping with other Christians.
He is survived by his sisters, Mary Lee Fry of Austin and JoAnn Rosser of Georgetown and was predeceased by his brother Homer and his dear friend, Jackie.
Charles is also survived by his beloved Dorothy, his three daughters, Martha Donnell and Peggy Day of Abilene, and Lisa Moore of Sanger, and his two sons, Charles of Tucson, Arizona and John Michael of Greensboro, Alabama. Charles had eight grandchildren (Selinda Taylor, Cody Stephens, Kyle Donnell, Kimberly Hill, Christi Maher, Jonathan Day, Jasmine and Zack Moore) along with two great grandchildren (Lauren and Logan Taylor). Additionally, he is survived by Naomi, the mother of his children.
Funeral Services will be held at Hamil Family Funeral Home at 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd. on Friday, February 1, 2008 at 2 p.m. with Gary Montgomery and Gayle Potter officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, January 31, 2008 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Baker Heights Church of Christ, 5382 Texas Avenue, Abilene, TX 79605 for the Indian Bikes and Bibles fund for the Indian Missionaries.
