Charles Edwin McCoy, 88, of Abilene, Texas, passed away Saturday, March 27, 2010 at Hendrick Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene, Texas, with Rev. David Cason and Timothy Palmer officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home. Born November 13, 1921 in Hillsboro, Texas, Charles was the son of the late Amos Virgil and Bonnie (Haney) McCoy. He graduated from Hillsboro High School and Hill Junior College. He enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps and served during WWII. After leaving the military, he graduated from Dallas Aviation in Dallas, Texas. He worked for Consolidated Aircraft in Dallas until he was hired by Greyhound Bus Lines. Charles drove for Greyhound for thirty-six and a half years and retired in 1983. A member of the Masonic Lodge, he was a fifty-year Master Mason. He loved watching football, especially the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Longhorns. He enjoyed working in his garden and often shared his bounty with the Salvation Army and the residents of Deagan Place. Charles was fond of country music and dancing with his beautiful wife, Dorothy. They were married on April 21, 1950. They had two daughters and two sons. Charles was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert Lee McCoy and Bill McCoy. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy J. (Taylor) McCoy of Abilene; daughter Cathy Gillit and husband Ronnie of Abilene; daughter Paula Meyer and husband Steve of Belton; son Chuck McCoy and wife Connie of Abilene; son Kelly McCoy and wife Deborah of Clyde; seven grandchildren, Clay Crabtree, Kristin Rice, Carrie Bowen, Drew Ward, Abigail McCoy, Tanner McCoy and Ryan McCoy; and six great-grandchildren, Clayton Crabtree, Nathan Crabtree, Parker Bowen, Caden Bowen, Logan James Ward and Bronc Rice. Charles is also survived by a brother Harold Ray McCoy and wife Valerie of Dallas; two sisters, Katherine Powers of Dallas and Helen Lavender and husband George of Arlington; and a sister-in-law, Gin McCoy of Waco.
