Charles McClatchey, 74, of Hawley died Thursday, January 23, 2014 at an Abilene medical center.
Born in Abilene, Texas on September 5, 1939, Charles was the son of Pansy (Deaton) and Charles Eza McClatchey, Sr. A lifelong resident of the Abilene area, he was a 1958 graduate of Abilene High School and attended one year of business college.
Charles worked seven years for Big Tex as a truck driver, and was later owner and operator of McClatchey Trucking Company for ten years before his retirement.
He was preceded in death on March 12, 2008 by his wife, Elveta Rose (Thomas) McClatchey, whom he married on April 16, 1960 in Anson, Texas; and a daughter, Carla Sugar on December 17, 2007.
Survivors include his daughter, Trina Bradford and husband Mike of Rusk, Texas; a sister. Donna Risley and husband Joe Dan of Weatherford, Texas; five grandchildren and spouses, Colton Bradford (Jessica), Leslie Hatch (Tim), Allison Roam (Matt), Courtney Jones (Brandon), and Victoria Sugar; five great-grandchildren, Rylan Hatch, Bailey Hatch, Ella Bradford, Kayden Roam and John Jones; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday, January 26, in Central Cemetery at Hawley in Jones County, Texas, with Pastor Mike Bradford officiating, directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd. in Abilene. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Gary Goodloe, Stephen Parker, Mitchell McAndrew, Eugene Boaz, Max Murray and Stephen Yarnell.
