Charles “Wayne” McAndrew, 68, died Saturday, April 15, 2017 at his residence in Tye, Texas.
Born in Burnett, Texas on March 25, 1949, Wayne was the son of Ruth Clarice (Kimsey) and James Leland McAndrew. He graduated from Brazosport High School in Freeport, Texas, and attended college. He was a U.S. Army and Vietnam War Veteran. In 1975, Wayne began working for Southwestern Bell, a career from which he retired as a Communications Tech after 37 years of service.
Wayne married Mitzi Ann Dodd on March 10, 1984 in Abilene. He was a faithful member of Broadview Baptist Church in Abilene, where he was a small group leader, a senior adult leader, a greeter, and involved in mission work. Wayne enjoyed traveling, attending his grandchildren’s events, and working with his hands.
He was preceded in death by his son, Gregory Leigh Hayley; father, James Leland McAndrew; brother, David Noel McAndrew; in-laws, Harlin and Juana Jean Dodd; and mother, Ruth Clarice McAndrew.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Mitzi Ann McAndrew of Tye; three sons and their spouses, Mitchell McAndrew and Wende of Hawley, TX, Bryan Hayley and Rita of Brisbane, Australia, and Kendall Hayley and Shanon of Fort Worth, TX; daughter, Jennifer Stephens and husband Brandon of Merkel, TX; brother, Donnie McAndrew and wife Odella of Hayden, CO; two sisters, Kathy Wilcox of Brazoria, TX and Karen Becker and husband Michael of League City, TX; sister-in-law, Wilma McAndrew of Stonewall, TX; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dickie and Brenda Dodd of Bomarton, TX and Kelly and Suzanne Dodd of Vernon, TX; eight grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 17th, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene.
Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 18th, at Broadview Baptist Church with Rev. David Cason, Rev. Wes Terry, and Rev. Burtis Williams officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene.
Pallbearers will be Scott Hayley, Zane Hagar, Leland McAndrew, Aaron McAndrew, Brian Clark and Jorge Pineda.
