Charles Thomas (Tom) Hudgins, 81, of Abilene, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at Hendrick Medical Center. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Elmwood Memorial Park, 5750 Hwy 277 South. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm, prior to the graveside service, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Tom was born November 20, 1931 to Charlie Griffin Hudgins and Lucy Bell (Fields) Hudgins in Fisk, Texas. He graduated from Mozelle High School in Coleman County and attended A.C.C. (now A.C.U.) for a short time. He joined the United States Air Force and served in Alaska, Washington D.C., and Knoxville, Tennessee. Tom married Juanita (Nita) Kelley in Maryville, Tennessee. He worked for Herald of Truth for over 35 years and retired in 1999. Tom farmed 600 acres in Coleman County that he loved until he could no longer do the work. He was a member of Highland Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Oeida Woodard and one grandson, Jonathan (J.T.) Hudgins. Tom is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nita Hudgins; two sons, Mark Hudgins, and Jason Hudgins and wife Denise; one granddaughter, Peyton Hudgins and one grandson, Justin Hudgins.
