Charles Roy Hollingsworth, 76, of Abilene, Texas, died Saturday, February 27, 2010, at an Abilene medical center.
The son of Lucille (Hukill) and Charles Henry Hollingsworth, Charles was born on July 1, 1933 in Claude, Texas. He was a graduate of Amarillo High School and a USMC veteran of the Korean Conflict. On August 14, 1954, he married Willa Ubben in Amarillo, Texas. Mr. Hollingsworth worked as a machinist, and in 1966 moved from Liberal, Kansas, to Abilene.
Charles loved country living with his garden, cows and tractors. He never met a stranger and loved telling stories. He loved his family, especially his grandkids and great-grandkids. He was a member of Potosi Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Willa Hollingsworth in November, 2009; his parents; and one brother, Gene Hollingsworth.
Charles is survived by his two daughters, Pattie Ann Hollingsworth of Abilene and Carrie Hall of Flower Mound, Texas; six grandchildren and spouses, Robert Fowlkes and Keva of Iraan, Texas, Chance Petree and Whitney of Abilene, Katie Hall of Flower Mound, Angela Carter and Brian of Lubbock, Shawn Petree and Anna of Seattle, Washington, and Jason Petree and Leslie of Chattanooga, Tennessee; and six great-grandchildren, Asher Fowlkes, Addison Fowlkes, Scout Carter, Will Carter, Moriah Petree and Elijah Petree. Survivors also include a brother, Benny Hollingsworth and wife, Rhonda, of Jasper, Texas; an aunt, Willie Joyce Petree of Rogers, Arkansas; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene, with the Reverends Richard Petree, Burtis Williams and Keith Clifton officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the family home, 233 Avenida Cortez, on Monday, March 1, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Danny Reid, David Reid, Howard Reid, Chance Petree, Katie Hall and Robert Fowlkes will serve as pallbearers. Bryce Tharp, Brent Stephens and Wayne Barthels will be honorary pallbearers.
