Charles Lawayne Harris

Charles Lawayne Harris, of Abilene, passed away on December 30, 2017 in Abilene.

Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 2nd at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 3rd at The Hamil Family Funeral Home with the Pastor Paul Kenley of Southwest Park Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at the Buffalo Gap Cemetery.

Lawayne was born in Buffalo Gap, TX to Bob and Bernice Harris on January 27, 1932. He attended elementary school in Buffalo Gap and went on to graduate from Wylie High School and then graduated from Abilene Christian College. He taught school at Wylie High School for a number of years and was an announcer at the football games. During this same time, he was the owner and operator of the Lazee Tee Golf Course. He married Patricia Tatom on June 18th, 2011 in Abilene and in later years was a Real Estate Broker. He was involved in many clubs, organizations over the years. He was the president of the Buffalo Gap Exes and served on the Buffalo Gap Cemetery Committee and was a member of South West Park Baptist Church.

Lawayne was preceded in death by Bob and Bernice Harris.

Lawayne is survived by his wife Patricia Tatom Harris, daughter Imogene Watkins and husband Johnny of Abilene, sister Colleen Allen of Buffalo Gap, grandson Bradley Watkins of Abilene, granddaughter Brittany Hokr and husband Brett of Madison, Alabama and one-great granddaughter Adaline Hokr, niece Bobbie Pate and husband Ray of Abilene, and niece Terri Woodward and husband Randy of Abilene.

Pallbearers will be Ray Pate, Johnny Watkins, Rocky Brooks, Jeff Goodin, Claude Burton & Larry Rushing.

Honorary Pallbearers are Bill Dawson & Tommy Broyles.
