Charles Ray Gober, of Tye, TX passed away Sunday, March 30, 2014 in an Oklahoma City hospital.
He was born on April 22, 1935 in Comanche County, TX to parents James Fishel Gober and Minnie Odessal Jackson Gober.
Charles Ray moved to the Abilene area in 1955 and worked 44 years in the Maintenance Department of the Abilene Independent School District. He had a special love for antique automobiles and had restored many Model A and Model T Fords. He was a long time member of the Abilene Model A Club and enjoyed his friends through the association.
He married Pearlene Watson in Tye on July 28, 1961 and they had two sons, Travis Wayne and James Ray.
Charles Ray was a long-time member of Merkel Church of Christ and for the last several years, Tye Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Pearlene, on September 29, 2005.
Charles Ray is survived by his two sons, Travis Gober and wife Lori, and James Gober, all of Tye; one sister, Lena Bilbrey and husband Cleve of Abilene; sisters-in-law, Betty Jo Kuhlmann and husband Curtis of Mason, and Patty Miller and husband Rusty of Tye; and brothers-in-law, George Watson of Abilene, Bobby Watson and wife Karen of Baird, and LeRoy Watson of Tye. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including Richard Bilbrey and wife Dianna of Abilene,and Rhonda Bilbrey of Denton.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at The Hamil Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road with interment to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Merkel, TX. Officiating will be Larry Gill of Merkel. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Travis Gober, James Gober, Roger Gober, Richard Bilbrey, Jathan Bilbrey and Tanner Bilbrey.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials to be sent to the West Texas Rehab Center, 4601 Hartford, Abilene, TX 79605 or the donor’s favorite charity.
