Charles Thomas (Tom) Gann of Abilene, formerly of Wichita Falls, Texas, passed away on July 26 in Abilene. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, August 5, prior to the funeral service following at 3:00 p.m. in The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. Rev. Ronnie White of First Baptist Church of Cross Plains will officiate. A graveside service will follow on Monday, August 6, at 11 a.m. in Crestview Memorial Park in Wichita Falls, TX directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home. Tom was born in Brownwood to Gene and Kathryn Gann on July 16, 1928. He went to school at Archer City. He married Peggy Cox on June 12, 1949 in Archer City, Texas. He graduated from Texas Tech and also received his Master's Degree in Education from Midwestern University in Wichita Falls. He was in civil service at Sheppard Air Force Base for 35 years in the missile program and the school of Health Care Sciences. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the US Navy. He was also a member of the Naval Reserve for 25 years. Tom was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 50 years. He was always active in little league sports for his children and grandchildren. Above all he loved his wife of 63 years and his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a blessing to all who knew him and always put others first. Tom was preceded in death by his parents and his in-laws. Tom is survived by Peggy, his wife of 63 years; his daughter Laura Atchley and husband Royce of Rising Star, and son Bill Gann of Rising Star; grandson Robert Word and fiancée Viridiana Pacheco of San Diego, CA, granddaughter Tagan Couch and husband Chris of Austin, TX, grandson Nash and Shari Gann of Garland,TX, and granddaughter Katie McClure of Clyde; and 4 great-grandchildren Preston, Maddox, Gavin and Thomas. The family of Tom Gann wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Melnyk, Dr. Kleinhaus, Dr. Heaven, Jody, Integra Care Hospice staff, the nurses of Abilene Regional Medical Center, and the entire staff of Mesa Springs.
