What was mortal was swallowed up by immortality. Charles Manning Eller received grace to see the Lord in glory on January 28, 2024.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at Hamil Family Chapel with David Cason and Mike Harkrider officiating. Burial services will be at Moore Memorial Gardens in Arlington, Texas, on Tuesday, February 6, at 2 PM. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Charles was born July 7, 1929, to Charles Mathias and Vera Jewel Manning Eller in Megargel, TX. He attended schools in Baird and Houston, but graduated from Bryson High School.
Charles graduated from North Texas State University. He served our country in the Signal Corps of the Army during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge, he received his Master’s degree from NTSU.
Charles married the love of his life, Dixie Jackson, on February 5, 1951. They were married for 67 years, until her passing in 2018. They had one son, Kevin, who died in 1985.
Charles had an amazing mind. He taught Industrial Arts at Harrold Public School and Arlington State College (now UTA), where he became the Head of the Mechanical Technology Department in the School of Engineering.
After 13 years in higher education, Charles left for industry. He began as an engineer for Loma Corp, eventually becoming the plant administrator. Following a brief stent at G. P. Plastics, he became Manager of Engineering for Esco Elevators. He ended his career as Manager of Operations for Arlington ISD.
Retirement gave him the chance to work full-time on his beloved homestead in Baird. Even to the end he loved to “make the rounds” at the ranch.
Charles and Dixie traveled the world, and his hunting stories are legendary. He was President of the Lions Club in Arlington. He was a Mason, Scottish Rite, and Shriner for over 50 years.
He is survived by many nieces and nephews, including Kellie Patterson, Tiffany Bell and Trent Patterson. Charles made friends wherever he went, but Ray Godbee and Sandy Ferguson were special blessings. The Lord provided a cherished friendship for 30 years when the Will Shudde family moved next door.
Pallbearers will be Ray Godbee, Manuel Godbee, Chris Ellis, Trent Patterson, Norman Bell, and JohnMark Shudde, with Jimmy Harris and Sam Harris as honorary pallbearers.
The family and friends were blessed by Touching Hearts and their crew of caregivers, specifically, Jessica and Alexis, who provided Charles with such wonderful, attentive care over the last seven months
