Charles Brewster Davis

1919 — January 12, 2009

On January 12, 2009, Charles B. Davis joined the love of his life, Mary Tom Lawson Davis, at home, in God's glorious heaven. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 15, 2009 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. John Fanning and Joey Light will officiate. Oscar Fanning will serve as the honorary officiant. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m., prior to the funeral service. Charlie was born June 22, 1919 in Wichita Falls, Texas. He served in the U.S. Air Force in WWII and in Korea. Charlie and Mary married in 1946 and moved to Abilene in 1954. Working in the construction industry, as a real estate broker and as the owner of the Wylie Superette, Charlie made an impact on the business and social community of Abilene and Wylie. He helped organize the Wylie Lions Club, was a long-time member of the Wylie Baptist Church and was the "Voice of the Bulldogs" from 1973 until 1996. Charlie touched the lives of many and was honored numerous times for his contribution of hard work and support of others. In September 2006, Charlie and Mary were among the first inductees to the Wylie High School Hall of Honor. Survivors include his daughter, Marilyn Davis Jennings and her husband Grady, of Dallas, Texas; his son, Chuck Davis and his wife Karen, of Aledo, Texas; his granddaughter, Molly Jennings Churchwell and her husband Chad; his great-granddaughter, Madilyn, of Alexandria, Virginia; a sister-in-law, Ethlene Abston, of Ropesville, Texas; his best friend, Louise Corn and her husband Larry, of Capps, Texas; nieces, nephews, neighbors and a large family of friends in the Wylie Community for whom he had great love and respect. All of Charlie's family and friends are so proud of all his accomplishments. He will be missed and remembered always. Daddy, we love you. Memorials may be made in Charlie's honor to the Texas Lions Camp, P.O. Box 290247, Kerrville, Texas 78029.
