Charles Burl Cason, III was a loving son and a wonderful father who went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, August 26, 2016. Services will be held on Tuesday, August 30th at 11:00 am in the sanctuary of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church, 701 South Pioneer Drive, in Abilene, Texas. Burial will follow in the Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories Cemetery, 5701 US Highway 277 South. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Charles was born on November 23, 1947 in Wellington, TX to Charles and Eva Cason. He grew up in Wellington, TX; Sublette, KS and Abilene, TX. At the age of eight Charles accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He graduated from Sublette High School in 1966 as Valedictorian, and went on to study at Hardin Simmons University, where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and a Bachelor of Arts in Bible and Psychology.
Charles, or Papa, as he was known to his granddaughters, was dedicated to being involved in every aspect of their life. From birthday parties to chocolate Easter bunnies to attending every soccer and basketball game, he always made them feel special. He would drive hours just to see them any chance he could get. Charles was also a huge Baylor sports fan and supported the University in many ways. He enjoyed spending family time at football and basketball events and especially loved watching the Lady Bears play in the Ferrell Center.
Charles spent 21 years working with North Central Texas Council of Governments leading the Administration teams. He joined Amigos Library Services in 1999 and served as Chief Financial Officer until his death. He enjoyed serving communities through our local libraries.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Cason, Jr.; his brother, Randall W. Cason; his sister, Candace (Cason) Grantham; his sister in-law, Gena Cason and his niece Danlynn Cason. Charles is survived by his loving son and family, Ron and Tiffany Cason and their daughters Presley and Landry of Dallas; his beloved mother, Eva Cason of Abilene; sister, Rhonda Mayfield and husband, Mike of Lubbock; brother Rick Cason and his wife Jene'e and their children Matthew, Aubrey, and David (wife Starla and their daughters Brittyn and Charlee) all of Abilene; Jan Cason, Randy Cason (wife Sadie and their children Trey, Kaylynn, Cade, and Hattie), Charva Ingram (husband Jason and their children Ivy and Cason) all of Waco.
