Dr. Charles R. Blanton, of Abilene, died Thursday, August 7, 2008 at the age of 65. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 pm today, Saturday, August 9 at Charlie's home, 4542 Pennington. Arrangements are by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Charlie was born September 2, 1942 to Ben and Mildred Blanton in Clarksville, Texas. He lived his childhood in Annona and Clarksville, Texas and graduated from high school in Mineola in 1960. He served in the Navy and graduated from McMurry College. He married Patricia Guyness on December 31, 1969. Charlie was a biology teacher at Blackwell High School. In 1974, he graduated from Baylor Dental School and practiced dentistry in Brownwood, Odessa, Ballinger and Abilene.
Charlie is survived by two sons, Kelly Todd Blanton and his wife Kendra of Bluefield, Virginia, and Jim Benjamin Blanton and his wife Marty, of Roby; one daughter, Mary Wallis and her husband Stephen, of Big Spring; two sisters, Libby Wolf and her husband Dr. Roland Wolf, of Abilene, and Dr. Patricia Blanton, of Dallas; nine grandchildren, Kristopher, Karys, Colten, Cade, Patricia, Samantha, Renick, Emma and Vinny. He is also survived by his beloved canine companions, Peanut and Coco. Charlie's parents, Ben and Mildred Blanton, preceded him in death.
Charlie's family would like to thank the many loyal patients, friends and family for their love and support, and a special appreciation to his close friend and dental assistant, Sandy Vickers.
