Charlene Tidwell Brown died Monday, September 17, 2007 and entered into her heavenly home with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. A private graveside service will be held for family on Saturday, September 22, 2007 at Elmwood Memorial Park, under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Charlene was born May 24, 1916 in Trenton, Texas to Pearl and Jim Allen. Her mother died shortly after birth and she was reared by her maternal grandparents. Charlene attended schools in Haskell, Texas and graduated from Haskell High School. She married L.T. (Skinny) Tidwell in Stamford, Texas in 1935. They lived in Baytown, Texas for several years and moved to Abilene in 1948 where Skinny, with two brothers, built and operated the first convenience stores in Abilene, known as Tidwell's Drive In Groceries. Charlene was a member of Elmwood West Methodist Church. "Nana" was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be missed by all of her family. Preceding Charlene in death were her parents, Jim and Pearl Allen; her husband of 37 years, L.T. (Skinny) Tidwell; two brothers, Grady and Carl Allen; and a step-brother, Damon Barry. She was also preceded in death by her second husband, J.H. Brown. Charlene is survived by three daughters, Karen and husband Bill Pierce, Billie and husband Joe Davis, all of Abilene, and Judy and husband Chuck Eakins, of Wylie, Texas. She also leaves seven grandchildren, Dr. Brad Pierce of Little Rock, Arkansas, Greg Pierce of Libertyville, Illinois, David Davis of Dallas, Joe Bob and Bo Davis of Abilene, and Brent and Bart Eakins, both of Dallas. Memorials may be made in honor of Charlene Tidwell Brown to Heart to Heart Hospice, 1500 Watersridge Drive, Suite 100, Lewisville, Texas 75057, or to the donor's favorite charity.
