Celia Ann Harwell, 78, of Abilene, passed away Monday, January 20, 2014 at Hendrick Medical Center. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Chris Raley will officiate. Entombment will follow at Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Celia was born March 19, 1935 to Cordie Lee Jones and Beatrice (McCoy) Jones in Childress, Texas. She married William Dean Harwell on December 19, 1951. He preceded her in death on May 5, 1999. Celia worked as a floral designer for Parker Florist for many years. She was a member of Southwest Park Baptist Church and the “Faithful Workers” Sunday school class. She was a longtime volunteer at Hendrick Medical Center, the “Queen Mother” of The Red Hat Society, a member of the Floral Association and the American Business Women’s Association.
Celia was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cordie and Beatrice Jones; her husband, William Dean Harwell; one daughter, Kimberly Robinson; three brothers, C.L. Jones, Elmo Jones, and Bobby Jones; three sisters, Jewel Burns, Pearl Middleton, and Mary Anderson.
Celia is survived by two sons, Mike Harwell and wife Leslie of Sylvester, Pat Harwell and wife Donna of Tuscola; two daughters, Jennifer Vann and husband Calvin, Regena Gay Weaver and husband Kenny all of Abilene; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many special friends.
Pallbearers will be, Jeb Harwell, Cody Harwell, Dillon Vann, West Robinson, Clint Henderson and Gary Bastin. Austin Robinson will serve as honorary pallbearer.
Memorials may be made in honor of Celia to the American Cancer Society, or the donor’s favorite charity.
