Catherine Louise Poe, 88, of Abilene, Texas passed away on December 21, 2012 in Abilene.
Funeral services will be held 9:00 a.m. Saturday, December 22, 2012 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. Officiating will be her sons Bill Poe of Marietta, Georgia and Rev. Tom Poe of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Louise was born in Springfield, Missouri to Verne and Catherine Robertson on November 13, 1924. She attended school in Maplewood, Missouri. Louise graduated from Phillips University, Enid, Oklahoma with a BA in Speech and English. She and Rev. William O. Poe were married on December 24, 1946 at Maplewood Baptist Church, Maplewood, Missouri.
Louise was a dedicated homemaker and worked beside her husband as a pastor’s wife at the Waldo Avenue Baptist Church, Independence, Missouri for over 35 years. She had a heart for children and worked in the church’s children’s ministry for many years. Louise was a soloist and sang in her church choir all her life as well as being involved in mission outreach.
Louise is survived by her husband of 66 years Rev. William O. Poe, son Thomas Poe and his wife Anne of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; daughter Betsy Duke and her husband John of Bixby, Oklahoma; son Bill Poe and his wife Karen of Marietta, Georgia; daughter Dotty Ingram and husband Ron of Abilene, Texas.
Her grandchildren include Jonathan and Leslie Poe, Todd Poe, Melanie Padilla, Austin and Ashley Shrader, Michael and Myra Shrader, Kyle and Amy Turner, Nathanael Poe, and Nelson Ingram. Her great grandchildren include Riggins and Rhett Poe, Alexa Padilla, Gabe and Bella Shrader, Eli and Kate Shrader, and Caroline and Jack Turner.
Pallbearers will be Austin Shrader, Kyle Turner, Jonathan Poe, Todd Poe, Nelson Ingram, Michael Shrader and Nathanael Poe.
