Carrol Dean Parmelly, of Tye, passed away Thursday, November 20, 2008 at the age of 73. Funeral services, with Rev. Jimmy Hatcher officiating, will be at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2008 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. There is no set visitation time, but friends are welcome to come by the funeral home on Friday. August 30, 1935, Carrol was born in Abilene, Texas to Kleas and Winnie Parmelly. He graduated from Abilene High School and served in the National Guard for several years. Carrol married Shirley Dodd in Holiday, Texas on February 2, 1959. He was the general manager for Featherlite Building Products for 33 years. Tye was Carrol's home his entire life, where he served on the Tye School board for many years and the Tye TEDCO Board for six years. He was also Man of the Year in 2005 and was on the board of the Tye Methodist Church for many years. Carrol's parents preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Parmelly, of Tye; two daughters, Annette Leonhard, of Tye and Cheryl Parmelly, of Abilene; one sister, Ella Haynes, of Abilene; one granddaughter, Kelsey Leonhard, of Tye, as well as several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made in honor of Carrol Parmelly to the American Cancer Society, 209 South Danville, Building B, Suite 107, Abilene, Texas 79605; or to the donor's favorite charity.
