Carolyn P. Monk

Carolyn Parker Monk, 87, of Abilene, TX entered into the arms of her Saviour on December 16, 2017 in Abilene, Tx.

Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 29, 2017 at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 525 Beech St, Abilene, TX with a reception to follow service. 

Carolyn was born in Dimmitt, TX to Ell D and Lillian Parker on March 7, 1930.  She went to school in Amarillo, TX and graduated from Amarillo High School.  She received her BBA from Texas Tech in 1952 where she met Robert (Bob) Monk at the Wesley Foundation.  They married on August 31, 1952 in Amarillo, TX.  She worked at Haggar and Texas Instruments in Dallas while Bob was in Seminary.  She received legal training from Judge Arrington in Princeton, NJ. After she raised her girls, she worked as a legal secretary for Byrd, Shaw and Weeks in Abilene for many years. But her all time favorite job was the volunteer coordinator for RSVP at West Texas Rehab from which she retired in 1995.  She was also involved in The League of Women Voters. She loved to travel and spend time with her family.  Carolyn’s faith, grounded in the love of Jesus Christ, was expressed in her service to her church and community.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents and her brother-in-law Clois Sandlin.

Carolyn is survived by her loving husband, Bob; daughter Robbi Harms and her husband, Steve, of Southlake, TX and daughter Ellen Monk Winstanley and her husband, Mark, of Leyland, England; her sister Pat Sandlin of Yuma, AZ; her grandchildren, Austin and his wife Courtney, Carter, Wyatt, Hunter and Clayton Harms and Rhiannon and Kathryn Monk Winstanley; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Paul United Methodist Church, McMurry University or the charity of your choice.
