Carolyn Robertson Lutz Wood

Carolyn Robertson Lutz Wood is now at rest after a lengthy illness. She died Thursday, July 19, 2012 at Wesley Court Retirement Community at the age of 86. Following a private burial on Wednesday, July 25, under the direction of Hamil Family Funeral Home, a memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. at First Central Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Janice Six will officiate. Carolyn was born on December 1, 1925 in Thornton, Arkansas to Robert Lionel and Nona Robertson. She was married to Robert Holly Lutz, in Denton, Texas. In 1962 the couple and their family moved to Abilene, where Carolyn enjoyed her role as wife and mother of four children. Following the death of her husband in November 27, 1966, Carolyn and her children chose to remain in Abilene, where she taught special needs children for more than 10 years. On October 25, 1980, Carolyn and Rollins Wood were married and enjoyed 19 years of marriage before Rollin's death on September 21, 1999. Carolyn and Rollin were active members of First Central Presbyterian Church, where Carolyn was ordained and served as both a deacon and an elder. Upon moving to Wesley Court in 2007, Carolyn remained active in the church and is credited with helping form a Bible study group at the retirement community, which continues to meet monthly. Carolyn is a graduate of TCU, attended McMurry University, and earned a M.Ed. from University of Texas. Carolyn died as she lived, surrounded by a close yet wide circle of family and friends. She is survived by her children: Robert Lutz and his wife, Patricia, of Shreveport, LA; Randy Lutz and his wife, Billie, of Abilene; Holly Frizzell and her husband, Lane, also of Abilene; a stepdaughter, Jane Watson, and her husband, Jim, of St. Simons Island, GA; and two stepsons, Carrol and John Wood. She is also survived by four grandchildren: David Lutz, Amber Lutz Kent and her husband, Joey, of Shreveport; Katherine Lutz Schlewinsky and her husband, Kyle, of Abilene; Jordan Lutz and Timothy Lutz of Abilene; Matt Frizzell and Jenny Frizzell of Austin, TX, as well as three step-grandchildren: Justin Watson and his wife, Winslett, of Savannah, GA; Kirk Watson and his wife, Laurie, of St. Simons Island, GA; Kate Danowski and her husband, Brad, of St Simons Island, GA. She is survived by one great-granddaughter, Adelaide Jordan Kent, daughter of Amber and Joey Kent, and five step-great grandchildren: Haddon and Whit Watson, sons of Justin and Winslett Watson; Manning, Bailey, and Wood Watson, children of Kirk and Laurie Watson. Also included as family is Ampora, a longtime friend to Carolyn. Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Nona Robertson; sister, Mimi Lewis and her husband, Ray; husband, Robert Lutz; son, William Lutz; husband, Rollins Wood.
