Carolyn Meyer Johnson died on Monday, September 6, 2010 after a long illness. Carolyn Meyer Johnson was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1944. She grew up in northern Virginia and rural Maryland. She graduated with a B.A. in English Literature from Mount St. Agnes College. She received her Master of Arts in Development Education from The American University. She spent a year living in France. Carol married Ronald W. Johnson in 1978. The couple's son, Robert Ashleigh Johnson was born in 1987. Carol worked for the World Bank, an autonomous agency of the United Nations, in D.C. for 31 years, traveling for work to such diverse places as Papua New Guinea and Mongolia. Upon retirement, Ron and Carol moved to Abilene, where Carol volunteered at the Day Nursery of Abilene until her health prevented her from continuing. Carol was a member of Church of the Heavenly Rest, Episcopal. Carol is survived by her beloved husband, Ronald W. Johnson, and son, Robert Ashleigh Johnson; her mother, Constance Jones Chesley; her brothers, Dr. Andrew P. Meyer, Daniel S. Chesley III, James Chesley; Dr. Richard Buckey Chesley; and sisters, Mary Louise Chesley and Virginia Abbott; sister-in-law, Jacqueline Tucker, brother-in-law, Fred Tucker; sister-in-law Nancy Meyer and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Dorothy Meyer, father Daniel S. Chesley II, and brother, Frederick Meyer. The funeral will be held on Friday, September 10, at 2:00 p.m. at Church of the Heavenly Rest, Episcopal with The Reverend Luke Back officiating. Interment will be in the columbarium at Church of the Heavenly Rest, Episcopal. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Outreach Committee, Church of the Heavenly Rest, Episcopal, 602 Meander, Abilene, TX, 79602.
