Carolyn Faye Griffith, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away at the age of 78 on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 2024, in Abilene.
A celebration of Carolyn's life will be held at 10 am on Monday, December 9 at First Baptist Church in Abilene, and officiated by C.V. Blake. Burial will follow at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 7457 West Lake Road, Abilene, Texas.
Carolyn was born in Winters, Texas to Carlton Casey Moore and Lilly Murlee Moore on May 18, 1946. She graduated from Abilene High School and obtained a bachelor's degree from Abilene Christian University and a master's degrees from Hardin Simmons University. Carolyn married Colonel Stanley Griffith on August 28, 1966.
For 26 years, Carolyn devotedly supported Stanley through his U.S. Army career. Carolyn lovingly cared for their children in their many moves around the world. After Stanley retired from the Army, he and Carolyn returned to Abilene, where she taught English at Abilene Christian University and became active in the First Baptist Church and the Abilene Quilters' Guild. Over time Carolyn focused on making quilted bed runners that she donated to Hospice and was pleased when she recently completed her 98th one. Carolyn received numerous awards for her quilts over the years, including having one accepted into the International Quilt Festival in Houston, Texas.
Carolyn was a loving and dedicated grandmother. She spent countless hours with them: picking them up from school, cooking breakfast, playing cards and dominoes, crafting, and passing along her quilting knowledge. And she was generous with her praise to her grandchildren upon learning of their own achievements as they grew. Carolyn was particularly fond of spending summer vacations in New Mexico with her children and their families.
Carolyn was tough. During recent health struggles, she traded comfort for hard work with the goal of spending as much time as possible with Stanley, her sons, and their children. Her love for her family shone through.
Carolyn is survived by her husband Stanley Griffith, her sons Riley Griffith and wife, Sherry, Casey Griffith and wife, Lauri, her grandchildren Abigail Griffith, Stephen Griffith, Olivia Griffith, Maxwell Griffith, and Sophie Griffith, and her brother Randall Moore and sister JoAnne Hill.
Pallbearers will be Stephen Griffith, Maxwell Griffith, Lance Griffith, Wade Carter, Joe Lyons, and Daniel Devlin.
Carolyn's family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota for gifting her an additional 20 years of time with her family.
In lieu of flowers, they are requesting donations be made to the Gift of Life Transplant House, 705 2nd Street SW Rochester, Minnesota, 55902.
