Carlene Parker Arrant

Carlene Parker Arrant, 94, passed away peacefully at home.  An Abilene resident for 78 years, she loved God, family and friends, and enjoyed her home and her farm land.   The family will receive friends at the home of Carlene Arrant from 5:30 to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, June 5. Services will be Wednesday, June 6 at 10:30 am at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road with Pioneer Drive Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. Carlene was born in Anson, Texas to Euna and Carlton Parker on October 29, 1923. She graduated from Roby High School and earned a Bachelor’s degree from Hardin Simmons University.  At Hardin Simmons she met and married Arthur Gray Arrant on December 5, 1943. They began a full life together which included military service, pursuing his medical career and building a family. Later in life she worked as a substitute school teacher and at Hendrick Home for Children. Carlene was involved in many organizations including Woman’s Auxiliary of the Taylor Jones County Medical Society, Abilene Woman’s Club, HSU Ex-Cowgirl Association and Athenian Study Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Arthur Gray Arrant; her parents, Euna and Carlton Parker.   Carlene is survived by her son, Gray Arrant; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Rex Pickens; daughters, Kathy Wright and Lucia Arrant; and her brother, James M. Parker.  Carlene leaves a legacy of seven grandchildren and spouses; Amy & Aaron Uzzell, Tasha & Eric Wrona, Clinton & Shea Pickens, Ash & Patty Wright, Daniel & Lindsay Arrant, Leanne & David Dearing, Keith & Hannah Arrant and her 16 great-grandchildren; as well as many cousins and nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Memorials may be given to HSU Ex-Cowgirl Association Scholarship Fund or the charity of your choice.
