Carl and Tom Lewis a local building contractor in Lawton, Oklahoma became partners and relocated to Abilene, Texas in 1955 to help build homes for the servicemen of the new Dyess Air Force Base. The family joined then The Bible Center, which is now the Abilene Bible Church. Carl was intrigued and motivated to help with the Tape ministry that was started, to record and transcribe Dr. Joe Temple's sermons, and soon The Living Bible Studies was a vibrant part of the church and it's members. Carl assumed the responsibility as Director and was responsible for making sure printing, recording, duplicating and mailings were carried out weekly until 2000. The ministry is International and continues to be a large ministry of the church.
After the partnership with Tom ended, Carl went out on his own as a building contractor and homebuilder. For many years he would build Spec and Custom homes, building of The Bible Center's new facilities on Butternut and was also one of the first to build in the Button Willow subdivision as Abilene expanded its limits towards Wylie.
