Carl M. Saurber, 84, of Abilene, passed away on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 in Abilene.
Visitation will be from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Saturday December 22, 2018 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, December 23, 2018 at the Goldthwaite Memorial Cemetery with Pastor Greg Rake, officiating. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home.
Carl was born on January 29, 1934 in Hamilton, Ohio to the late Carl and Ruth (Snavley) Saurber. He and Sybil Fulmer were married on January 29, 1956 in Big Spring, Texas. Carl was employed by Pease Woodworking in Hamilton, Ohio for 13 years, and then he was employed with General Motors in Dayton, Ohio (Moraine City) for 28 years, retiring in March of 1996. He worked in the paint department. After retiring from GM, he was a member of the Lone Star IHC Chapter #25. He loved working on Farmall Tractors as well as attending various trade shows and auctions. Carl was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and served in the Air Force. He and Sybil moved to Abilene in December 1996 from Hamilton, OH.
Carl was preceded in death by two cousins, Evelyn Williams and Walter Andrews.
Survivors include his wife Sybil of Abilene; his beloved cat, Callie; cousins, Brenda Haile, Michelle Haile, Roy and Sharee Haile, Cody, Jessica and Ella Grace Haile all of Abilene, and Micah and Holly Haile of Austin, Texas, Wesley and Donna Haile of Melissa, Texas, Mindi, Chris, Olivia and Kaitlyn Carmichael of Fort Worth, Texas, Jennifer, Scott, Greyson and Brooks Buzan of Melissa, Tyler, Katie and Reese Haile of Schertz, Texas and Erma Readnower of Seven Mile, Ohio.
Family suggests memorials may be made to the Hendrick Hospice, 1651 Pine Street, Abilene, Texas 79601.
Sybil Saurber wishes to extend her sincere thanks to Dr. William Shudde and Dr. Naveed Anwar as well as her family, Shirley Haile, Brenda Haile, Roy and Sharee Haile, Michelle Haile and Wanda Tavarez for their amazing support and help during this time.
