Carl Thomas Hitt, 83, died Wednesday, December 6, 2006 in Abilene. The family will receive friends during a visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 9, at the First Baptist Church of Aspermont, 733 North Broadway. Rev. Dolan Brinson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Rule Cemetery.
December 11, 1922, Carl was born in Haskell County to James Thomas Hitt and Verla Grace (Grinstead) Hitt. He graduated from Rule High School. Carl married Sue Wright on March 31, 1951 in New Mexico. A farmer and a rancher, Carl was a longtime resident of Rochester and Aspermont. He served his country in the United States Army during WWII and the Korean Conflict. Carl was a Mason, a member of the VFW, the American Legion, and was a member of the Aspermont Lion's Club. He served on the Board of Director's at the Stonewall County Memorial Hospital. Carl also worked as an administrator for various nursing homes.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents; his wife, Sue Wright Hill, on July 30, 1996; his brother, Clarence Hitt, also in 1996; and one nephew, Tommy Collum. Carl is survived by three sisters, Tommie Collum of Abilene, Eva Irvin and her husband Alton "Cotton" of Abilene, and Mary Ellen Smith of Wichita Falls; nieces and nephews, Riva Hitt Johnson, Dr. Larry Irvin, Kenneth Irvin, Carla Castell, and Karen Allred.
