Lifelong Abilenian, Carl Zink Hallmark, Jr., 75, passed away Sunday, September 9, 2018.  Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at Lytle South Baptist Church.  Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.  Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.

Carl was born September 30, 1942 to former Abilene Police Chief Carl Z. Hallmark and Viola Fuller Hallmark, both deceased.  Carl attended the Abilene Public Schools and graduated in 1960 from Abilene High School.  In 1964, Carl graduated from McMurry College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art and History.  He was employed for 15 years as Display and Advertising Manager for Minter’s Department Store.  In 1979, Carl joined J.C. Penny at the new mall of Abilene store as Visual Presentation and Advertising Manager.  Carl worked for J.C. Penny’s for 33 years, retiring in May of 2012.

He was a charter member of Lytle South Baptist Church in Abilene and served on the building committee for their new sanctuary.  He was a former longtime member of the American Advertising Federation, Abilene Chapter. He worked with Volunteer Services at the Abilene State Supported Living Center on the annual “Stocking Stuffer” event and on the “Christmas Lane” displays.  He also served on their Volunteer Services board for a period of time.

Carl enjoyed traveling, which he did over many years while working with Minter’s and J.C. Penny.  He helped remodel and open new stores for J.C. Penny in Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio, as well as stores in New Orleans and one near Baltimore and Washington D.C.

He traveled frequently with friends to Tampa and Orlando, as well as New York, Seattle, Las Vegas, Santa Fe and Ruidoso.

Carl is survived by several cousins including: Larry McKinney of Richardson, Curtis Mitchel of Garland, Charles Mitchel of Midlothian, George Wilson of Granite Shoals and James Fuller of Terrell, as well as longtime friends Jeff Boyer of Los Angeles, CA, Anna Boyer and Sherry Denney of Roswell, NM, and Bill and Lindsay Minter of Abilene, and Elizabeth and Kenneth Barr of Anson.

For those desiring, memorials may be made to Lytle South Baptist Church or the Taylor Jones Humane Society.
