Carl Charles "Charlie" Crain, 84, of Abilene, passed away Monday, August 6, 2012 at his home. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Graveside services will be at 9:00 am on Thursday morning at Elmwood Memorial Park. Rev. Louis Johnson and Rev. Randy Roy will officiate.
Charlie was born in Hamby, Texas on July 6, 1928 to Ben and Mary (Early) Crain. He married the love of his life, Lillie Jo James, on December 13, 1953. Charlie served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He owned and operated Crain's Machine and Supply in Abilene for over 30 years. Charlie was a member of North Park Baptist Church and has been a Mason for over 50 years. He loved playing dominoes and watching old westerns.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and three brothers. Charlie is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lillie Crain of Abilene; one son, Gary Crain and wife Rhonda, of Tuscola; one daughter, Sheila Valentin and husband Rick of Orland Park, IL; two brothers, Benny Crain of Clyde and Bill Crain of Belton; one sister, Addie Lee Waldrop of Dallas; one grandson, Ricky Blount of Billerica, Massachusetts; one granddaughter, Tara Pope and husband Larry of Abilene; and three great-grandchildren, Corley and Chase Blount and Alex Fuller, all of Abilene.
