Calvin O. Haltom, 78, passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2014 in Abilene at his residence.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 27, in Loraine Cemetery in Loraine, Texas with Rev. Doyle Combs officiating, directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 26, at the funeral home.
Born in Wiles Canyon, Texas on December 27, 1935, Calvin was the son of Dorothy Elizabeth (Winchell) and Edgar O’Dell Haltom. He attended Hardin-Simmons University and served in the Army National Guard. He married Barbara J. Combs on January 27, 1957 in Loraine, Texas. In 1971, they moved to Abilene where he was owner and operator of Calvin’s Air Conditioning & Heating Company until his retirement. His hobbies included farming, bowling and woodworking. He was a member of Elmdale Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Calvin is survived by his loving wife Barbara Haltom, whom was his primary caregiver during his lengthy illness. Survivors also include his son, James Haltom and wife Brenda of Argyle, TX, and their children, Amanda Haltom, Kristen Haltom, Matthew Haltom, Melissa Haltom and Melanie Rose Haltom; his son, Nathan Haltom and wife Makie of Abilene, and their children, Aille Haltom and Corvin Haltom; and his daughter, Gina Dickson and husband Billy Pearce of Abilene, Gina’s children, Amie Dickson and Aaron Dickson, and Gina’s grandson, Rylan Dickson. Calvin is also survived by his brother, Edgar Haltom and wife Glenda of Loraine; sister, Anita Hoover of Winthrop, Arkansas; and several nieces and nephews.
