Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” was the verse that guided our sweet mom throughout all of her life’s journeys.
Jo was born in Odessa, Texas to Louis and Joy Kincanon on September 28, 1951. She was welcomed into the kingdom of Heaven and received her wings on August 15, 2013, in Abilene, TX. She married her soul mate Jim Mitchell, Sr. on April 1, 1971. Together, they had four children; Lil Jim, Misti, Kristi, and Stormy. She graduated from Abilene Christian University and received her Master’s Degree from the University of Phoenix. She worked faithfully for the Betty Hardwick Center of Abilene, TX for 28 years of service retiring as their Chief Financial Officer in 2012. They became her second family even watching her children grow up. She was one of the co-founders of the Willow Creek Wedding Chapel in 2006. She took great pride in the Chapel and loved helping brides prepare for their big day.
Her unfailing faith is what her husband, children, and grandchildren are reminded of when they think of her. She attended Beltway Park Baptist Church, had an unstoppable love for the Lord and trusted Him in every aspect of her life. She didn’t just believe the written word but she would strive to live it daily setting an example for all of whom she came in contact with. Christ is her Lord and Savior and although she was a private person, she wasn’t afraid to share her faith and love with others. Likely, what most would have seen as their darkest hour, she used for the glory of God to minister to others who were facing the same obstacles. She faced each new challenge that arose with a smile on her face and faith that God would carry her through.
Mom took such pride in being called Nana. Her greatest legacy that will continue on is her nine grandchildren. They will forever carry on with her strength, motivation, and most importantly her faith. We no longer need to look around for our serenity, now we will look up.
