Bobbie Bland Knight, 86, passed away on February 3, 2007. Memorial services will be held at First Central Presbyterian Church on Friday, February 09, 2007 at 2:00 pm, with the Rev. Janice Six and Carter Edmondson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Bobbie was born on February 17, 1920 in Merkel, Texas to Eula Diltz Bland and Robert Lafayette Bland, Sr. She was a graduate of Abilene High School and Texas Tech University. Bobbie married Willis Herman Knight on August 22, 1940. Bobbie was an active partner with her husband, Herman Knight, in establishing and operating Knight Carpet Company in Abilene. Upon their retirement in 1965, they spent 22 years of happy traveling in their motor homes. They maintained homes in Abilene until 1978, when they moved to Ruidoso, New Mexico. In 1985, they moved to Presbyterian Village North in Dallas. Herman passed away in 1997 and Bobbie returned to Abilene in 1999 to be near friends and family. Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sisters Fae Bland Tandy and Marjorie Bland Sayles, a brother R.L. Bland Jr, and nephews Bland Tandy and Steve Bland. She is survived by R.L Bland's wife, Rosemary Bland Hayter, nieces Frances Sayles, Becky Brown, Diltzie Edmondson and Nan Tandy, nephews John Robert Sayles, John Bland, Rex Bland, Mills Tandy and Kerry Tandy, and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Central Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Medical Care Mission, 400 Orange St., Abilene, Texas 79601.
