On November 27, 2010 Leila Blanche Foster was gently and lovingly carried from this life on earth to her eternal glory, by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Early in her life Blanche accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior, was baptized, and lived a life of love and service to God and others. She constantly encouraged family and friends to embrace God's love and mercy while holding on to their faith through life's journey. Her daily life was a living example of what it meant to walk in the steps of Jesus.
Born September 9, 1933 in Burnett, Texas, Blanche was the daughter of Jessie Lloyd Fry and Hazel E. (Howell) Fry. Most of her childhood years were spent in the Texas "Hill Country" around Uvalde, Texas and she graduated from Uvalde High School in May of 1950.
She married the love of her life, James Chester Foster in Uvalde, Texas on April 3, 1951 and devoted her life to the raising of their children. Her unselfish, loving attention to her children and grandchildren led her family to following Christ. She was the optimistic heart and soul of the family and has left a strong legacy of love to all who knew her.
Blanche and Chester moved from San Angelo in 2000 and Abilene has been their home for the past 10 years. Blanche devoted her life to being a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her home was always a warm and welcome place for all.
She was a member of University Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Roland Fry of Goldthwaite, and one granddaughter Jamie Lauren Foster of San Angelo. Blanche is survived by her husband Chester Foster of Abilene; one son Don Foster and wife Joan of San Angelo; one daughter Pam Massey and husband Bruce of Abilene; one brother Haldon Fry of Barksdale; one sister Mary Lou Gibson of Uvalde; four grandchildren: Jana Justice and husband Neil, Judson Foster, Julie Hansen and husband Jay, and Brad Massey and wife Jenny; as well as six great-grandchildren: Jaylee, Jaxon, Lauren, Ashton, Madalyn and Landon.
Brad Massey, Judson Foster, Jay Hansen and Neil Justice will serve as pallbearers.
The family visitation will be from 5:00 to 6:30 pm Monday, November 29, 2010 at the University Church of Christ, 733 East North 16th Street with funeral services to follow on Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at 11:30 am at the University Church of Christ. The burial will be private. Gary McCaleb and Bill Young will officiate assisted by Bruce Massey. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
