Billy Maurice Williams, 94, passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2019 in Abilene, Texas.
Bill was born on October 3, 1924 to Ann Witt Williams and George Washington Williams in Mansfield, Arkansas. He graduated high school in 1942 from Sweetwater High School. He was in the US Navy 1942 – 1944, serving in WW II. Bill entered Hardin-Simmons University in 1944 and graduated in 1948. On June 8, 1948, he married Norma Jean Watts who preceded him in death in 1967. In 1951 he entered Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. As a Southern Baptist minister, Bill pastored several churches in Texas including San Angelo, Jayton and Sweetwater until 1958. He entered US Air Force as Capt. Chaplain in Tampa Florida. In 1962 he moved back to Texas and began teaching Orchestra and Band at various schools including Robert Lee, Paducah, Abilene and Old Glory. In Abilene he married Carolyn Shepherd McKinney in 1969. Bill owned and operated Williams and Son Sandblasting until retirement. He was a member of North Park Baptist Church. Preceded in death by parents, brother, Hansford Williams; son Dr. Daniel Williams; stepson Larry McKinney; grandson Troy Williams; and son-in-law Michael McCartney. Survivors include wife of 49 yrs. Carolyn Shepherd Williams; daughter-in-law Anita Williams; daughters Donna McCartney, Debbie Steele & husband Donald; sons David Williams & wife Judy; Daryl Williams & Shana. Survivors also include grandchildren Dana Ashley & husband J.R.; Dustie Baldree; Christy Brewer & husband Devin; Catherine Hall & husband Tony; Ira Akers & wife Kristina; Clay Williams & wife Luz; Anna Broome and husband Ryan; Nathan Williams; Sara Williams; Drew Williams & wife Destini; Reagan Williams; Stoney Williams & wife Heather; Cory McKinney & wife Amanda; Casey McKinney; Candi Stapleton; Dustin Miksch and wife Meagan; Blake Steele; Natalie Steele; David Jenkins; Drew & Courtney Jenkins; Dustin & Ashton Jenkins; Dawson & Jennifer Jenkins; Dakota Jenkins. Great-grandchildren Shane Holdridge; Dominique Gonzales; Tessla Gonzales; Mikayla Jackson; Caleb Jackson; Tooter Hall; Haddie Hall; Harlow Brewster; Berkley Brewster; Eli Williams; Elliotte Akers; Lincoln Akers; Cole & Callie McKinney; Cheyenne & Zach Eakin; Austin McKinney; Chelsea & Keith Jones; D’Arcy Stapleton and Danielle Stapleton; Logan Jenkins; Addison, Eathan, Zay, Hunter & Chase Jenkins; Callen & Lindley Jenkins. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00pm Friday, January 11, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene. Funeral services will be 10:00am Saturday, January 12, at North Park Baptist Church, 1525 Anson Ave., officiated by Rev. Louis Johnson, David Williams and Ira Akers. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to North Park Baptist Church, 1525 Anson Ave., Abilene, TX 79601.
