Billy Don Riddle, 84, died Friday, September 9, 2011, at an Abilene medical center.
Born in Abilene, Texas on November 6, 1926, Don was the son of Sibyl Gladys (Erwin) and John Ervin Riddle. He graduated from Abilene High School in 1944, and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from Oklahoma University. Mr. Riddle first worked for 26 years as a geologist for Amoco, working in Abilene, Midland, Fort Worth and New Orleans. He also worked at Westland Petroleum in Houston, and most recently for Gus Edwards and Co. in Abilene.
Don married Joyce Elise Cringle on April 16, 1949 in Oklahoma City. He was a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church in Abilene, and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Barbara Dean.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Riddle of Abilene; three sons, Mark Riddle of Fairfax, Oklahoma, Craig Riddle and wife Vicki of Alvarado, Texas, and Kent Riddle and wife, Cindy of Denham Springs, Louisiana; a daughter, Donna Mitchell and husband Ray of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; six grandchildren, Robbie Riddle, Brian Riddle, Shawn Riddle, Kevin Riddle, Connie Riddle and Jeffrey Riddle; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September, 12, at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church with Dr. Jeff Reid officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
