Billy Paul Lewis entered heaven hand and hand on Saturday, January 13, 2007 with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. His courageous battle with cancer was never fought alone; his Lord carried him all the way.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday, January 18, 2007 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Funeral services will be on Friday at 12:30 pm at Elmdale Baptist Church. Brother Bill Armstrong from Nimrod Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will follow in the Desdemona Cemetery in Desdemona, Texas.
Billy Paul Lewis was born in Desdemona, Texas to Robert Pickens Lewis and Jessie Ida (Carr) Lewis. He was married to Doris Faye Vaughn until our heavenly father took her by the hand and led her home in 1989. He later married Judith Messier on May 7, 1991.
Bill retired from the USAF after serving his country with much pride. He was recognized with many awards as a jet aircraft mechanic. Playing his mandolin and singing in the choir was his greatest for his Lord.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, five sisters and four brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Judith Lewis of Abilene; two sons, Richard Paul Lewis and his wife Sheryl of Anson, and Troy Messier of Abilene; three daughters, Carol Hieter and her husband Ken of Portland Oregon, Marsha Jones and her husband James of Andrews, Texas, Shery Mills and her husband Chris of Fort Worth; and one sister Alpha Thieboud of DeLeon, Texas. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Crystal Charlton, Carrie DiPietro, Peyton Messier, Aspin Turner-Santos, Dalton Messier, Phillip Jones, Steve Jones and David Gregg; and his great-grandchildren: Taylor Charlton, Wesley Charlton, Andrea Charlton, Gavin Huddelston, Avery Michelle Santos, Kourtnee Jones and Carrington Jones.
Brian Santos, Justin Santos, Herman Aiken, Tommy Thomason, Don Blackburn and W.H. Blackburn will serve as pallbearers.
May God abundantly bless Dr. Anton Melnyk, Tammy, Lisa, Monica and Dr. William Shudde for being great physicians of the Lord.
May our nurses Brenda, Jody, Judy, Debra and Tammy of Hospice of the Big Country always be touched by our Heavenly Father's Hand.
