Billy Roy Jones, age 72, died Monday, September 26, 2005 at Hendrick Health Systems in Abilene. Visitation will be Tuesday evening, September 27th from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd. Graveside services will be Wednesday, September 28th at 1:15 p.m. at Elmwood Memorial Park which is prior to the Memorial Service being held at 2 p.m. at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church with Jack Ridlehoover, Rev. Stan Allcorn and Dr. Jeff Ried officiating. Services and burial will be under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home. Billy Roy Jones was born on August 4, 1933 in Snyder, Texas to parents John Roy Jones and Junie Pearl LaRue Jones. He grew up in Snyder and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1953 to 1955. He married Betty Lou Lowrance in Snyder on July 15, 1956. Billy and Betty relocated to Abilene from Big Spring in 1968. He received his Bachelor's degree from Texas Tech University and his Master's from Abilene Christian University. He was a teacher and administrator in Odessa for six years, Big Srping for two years, and then for Abilene Independent School District for twenty-three years before retirement. He was a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church and a 32 degree Mason. Billy was preceded in death by his parents. Billy Roy is lovingly survived and remembered by his wife of forty-nine years, Betty L. Jones of Abilene; his son: Scott Jones and wife, Brenda, of Abilene; his daughter: Susan Jones Winstead, and husband, Bobby, of Little Elm; and two grandchildren: Curry Ellis Jones and Bayleigh Anne Jones. Memorials may be made to the Arise & Build Program at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church and can be sent to: 701 S. Pioneer Drive, Abilene, Texas 79605.
