Billy Joe Holt, 58, formerly of Abilene, Texas, died Thursday, June 13, 2013.
Born in Abilene, Texas on July 14, 1954, he was the son of Ada Pauline (Fillmon) and Theadore Ivan Holt. In the Abilene ISD, he attended Anson Jones, Ben Milam and Cooper High School for eleven years before enlisting in the military, serving his country for seven years. Billy, also referred to as “Joey” by his sisters, was an awesome dad, brother and son.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ted Dwayne.
Survivors include his daughter, Cassandra Porteous of Cisco, Texas; former wife, Evelyn of Ranger; three sisters, Sharon Winchester and Lana Patterson both of Abilene, and Dian Burleson of Aspermont, Texas; eight grandchildren, Tory, Meagan, Halie, Rachel, Roy, Brady, Zach and Colby; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at a visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 20, in The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Jeff Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene.
The family will be having a time of visiting and sharing a meal at the home of Lana Patterson, 1550 Lytle Acres Dr., Abilene, TX 79602, following the committal service at the cemetery.
