Rev. Billy N. Davis, 86, died Friday, October 19, 2012, at Abilene Regional Medical Center. Born in Brownfield, Texas on May 6, 1926, Billy was the son of Robert Allene (Brown) and James Robert Davis. He attended school in Baird, Texas and was a resident of the Big Country almost all of his life. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army Infantry in the Pacific Theater. He received a Purple Heart. Billy married Leona M. Waxler on January 3, 1948 in Caps, Texas. A minister and chaplain, he also had been a truck driver for 44 years. Rev. Billy Davis was a true friend to many who stopped by his chapel for truckers, Bethel Full Gospel Ministries. A true Christian man who loved his God, wife, children and family, Billy was blessed by his Lord and Savior with ten grandkids and 14 great-grandkids. His favorite scripture in the Bible was Psalm 23. His parents, brother Coleman Lee Newman, and sisters Annie Marie Bagwell and Melba Faye Bowen preceded Billy in death. Rev. Davis is survived by his wife of over 64 years, Leona Waxler Davis of Tye, TX; four children, Teresa Culbert and husband Jimmie of Abilene, Billy R. Davis and wife Denise of Kona Kaliah, Hawaii, Gaylon W. Davis and wife Suzane of Telephone, TX; and Deborah Ellison of Abilene; brother, Bobbie R. Davis of Tye; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 23, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene, with Rev. Jim Ritter officiating. Burial will follow in Eula Cemetery in Eula, Texas. The family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, October 22, at the funeral home. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, North Central Texas Chapter, 301 S. Pioneer Dr. Suite 105, Abilene, TX 79605. The family expresses special thanks to Dr. Victor Hudman and his staff, as well as the staffs of Windcrest Alzheimer's Care Center, IntegraCare Hospice and Abilene Regional Medical Center.
