Bill R. Proctor, 80, died Monday, November 22, 2010 at an Abilene medical center.
Born in Hamlin, Texas on August 18, 1930, Bill was the son of the late Arrebell (Blair) and O. B. Proctor. He had been a resident of Abilene since 1945, graduating from Abilene Christian High School and attending college one year. He married Betty Bond on December 27, 1951 in Abilene, and served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953.
Mr. Proctor first worked with Batjer Claims Service, became an adjuster for Gulf Insurance, and later worked as an independent insurance adjuster. During his earlier years, he also was a gospel preacher for many years, having preached at Dudley Church of Christ for 16 years as well as filling in at other churches as needed. He was a member of Oldham Lane Church of Christ. Hobbies he enjoyed were woodworking and fishing with his brother, Bruce.
Bill is survived by his wife, Betty Proctor of Abilene; sons, David Ray Proctor and wife Debbie of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Jeffrey Mark Proctor and wife Melanie of Tumwater, Washington; brother, Bruce Proctor of Abilene; five grandchildren, Jennifer Curran and husband Brian, Elizabeth Proctor, Christopher Proctor, Noah Proctor and Luke Proctor; and two great-grandchildren, Andrew Curran and Julia Curran.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 24, at Oldham Lane Church of Christ with Lowell Maxey and David Proctor officiating. Interment will follow in Buffalo Gap Cemetery directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Christopher Proctor, Noah Proctor, Luke Proctor, Brian Curran, John Nunn and Michael Moore will serve as pallbearers.
