Bill Heatly, 82, went home to be with the Lord Monday, January 1, 2007 at his home. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Memorial services will be at 1:00 pm on Wednesday at Lytle South Baptist Church, with Rev. Rodney Watson and Rev. Joe Bartemus officiating. Burial will follow in the Trent Cemetery. January 18, 1924, Bill was born to Aubry Coleman Heatly and Johnnie Odie (Chappell) Heatly in Crawford, Texas. He attended business school at Abilene Christian College. During WWII, Bill served in the United States Army in the South Pacific from 1942 to 1945. Bill's employment with Shell Oil led him and his family to live in numerous states over the years. He was employed for 41 years as a production foreman for Shell Oil Company. In 1987 Bill moved to Abilene. He was very active in social ministries for the Abilene Baptist Association from whom he received an award in 1998 as the Lay Person of the year. He was also a member of Founders Lions Club and Lytle South Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Mary Sue Baker Heatly, of whom he was married to for 54 years, one sister, Margaret Thomas, and three brothers, Johnny, J.M. and Byron Heatly. He is survived by his wife, Charlene Heatly of Abilene; his daughter, Cathy Bartemus and her husband Joe of Indianapolis, Indiana; two step-sons, Eddie Mitchell and his wife Pam of Abilene, Roger Mitchell and his wife Jorgia of Abilene; two step-daughters, Vivian Childress and her husband Bob of Ozona, and Angela Mitchell of Abilene; two brothers, Jerry Heatly of Big Springs and Kenneth Heatly of Abilene; seven sisters, Joy McElmurray, Ruby Sipe, Nelda Hobbs and Sherry Fellers, all of Trent, Grace Bright and Elsie Keenan of Abilene, and Emma Watson of Merkel. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made in honor of Bill Heatly to Hospice of the Big Country, 4601 Hartford Street, Abilene, Texas 79605 or to Heritage Christian School, 6401 East 75th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46250.
