Beverley Starnes-Pipes

March 26, 1936 — March 14, 2025

Beverley Rose Camp (Starnes) Starnes-Pipes was born in Merkel, Texas, to parents Corrie D. and Lillie Rose (Simpson) Camp on March 26, 1936. With heavy but spiritually rejoicing hearts, we acknowledge her "Graduation to Glory" -- her passing from this earthly life, to being asleep in Jesus, awaiting His return in the sky to collect all His own for eternal life in heaven.

When Beverley was 12, her mother passed away; Beverley and her siblings were accepted at Boles Children's Home in East Texas to live. Beverley graduated from Boles Home High School in Quinlin, Texas, in 1954, then continued her education at Abilene Christian College, receiving her Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1957. Beverley and Ted Starnes met at ACC, and they were married July 5, 1957, and parented two sons, Thomas Duncan and Robert Mac. Ted preceded Beverley in death December 7, 2014.

Beverley earned her California Teaching Credentials at Pepperdine College in Los Angeles in 1970, then her Master of Education Degree at ACU in 1975. She taught in the Education Department at ACU part-time for 10 years, and at Cisco Junior College in Abilene for 2 years. Her greatest love in teaching was at Abilene ISD, however, beginning at Taylor Elementary, 6th grade, where she greatly helped in developing the Gifted Program for Abilene ISD. Beverley was Assistant Principal at some for the Abilene campuses, and retired from AISD in June, 1974, working therein for 31 years.

Beverley and Robert (Bob) Pipes met here at Hillcrest, with their friendship flourishing into romance. They were married on October 22, 2016. Beverley was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, whose kindness, strength, and warmth touched all who knew her. She lived a life filled with compassion and grace -- always putting others before herself, and offering love without condition. She had a deep love for her family, her students, her co-workers, and her church family here at Hillcrest. Beverley brought beauty and joy to everything she did. Her unwavering support, gentle wisdom, and radiant smile were gifts to everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Beverley is survived by her husband, Bob Pipes; son, Robert Mac Starnes (wife, Tracy); grandson, Blake Hampton; granddaughter, Brynn; granddaughter, Jennifer Shay Laude; great-grandchildren, Lilly and Baron; 2 sisters, Lavonna Truitt, and Barbara Davis-Srock; as well as many dear friends who cherished her. In addition to her parents and first husband, Beverley was preceded in death by a son, Thomas; one brother, Robert; and two sisters, Sherry and Shirley. Though she may no longer be with us in body, her spirit will continue to live in the lives of those she loved.
