Bettye Dee Tyler

1929 — January 9, 2021

On January 9, 2021, Bettye Tyler was welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior at the age of 92. Bettye Dee Farmer was born January 6, 1929, to George W. Farmer and Pearl Hocker Farmer in Ballinger, TX. Friends and loved ones are invited to pay their respects to Bettye and her family on Thursday, January 14, from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. There will be no scheduled formal visitation in order to avoid a large gathering and to help maintain social distancing. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 15 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, with Dr. Jeff Reid, of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church, officiating. Private family burial will be at Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories Cemetery later that day. Through mutual friends, Bettye met a recently discharged World War II Marine, Robert "Dock" Tyler. They married January 19, 1947 and were blessed with 63 years, happily working and traveling together. They established the first Tyler Cleaners in 1949. Though no longer owned by the family, it is still in business today. They were blessed with two children, Bob and Dian. Bettye doted on her children and often heard, "You are like a little girl with dolls." In 1984, Dock and Bettye joined Pioneer Drive Baptist Church. Dock was a deacon and Bettye taught the Loveshine Sunday School Class for 30 years, loving them as her extended family. Bettye was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, her husband, Dock (2009), son-in-law, Wayne Willis (2014), and her dear daughter, Dian (2016), an oncology nurse. She is survived by her son, Bob Tyler and wife Lyn of Abilene; four well-loved grandchildren: Tammy Tyler of Columbia, MO, Tiffany Tyler Tacker and husband Corey of Abilene, Tyler Willis, M.D. and wife Jessica Willis, M.D. and their daughter Adelaide of Houston, TX, and Teddy Willis of Abilene; numerous nieces and nephews, and the couple who considered her "their" mom, Gerald and Yanell Rieder. Though Bettye needed a walker during her last years, her spirit remained bright. She loved and was loved — a happy person in the Lord's care. Memorials may be made to Pioneer Drive Baptist Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
